I Don’t Even Know Why I’m Crying
Yesterday, on my morning walk, I ran into a woman I’ve gotten to know.
As we chatted, she told me she’d had an argument with her husband earlier that day.
As she shared the details, tears welled up in her eyes.
She quickly said, “I don’t even know why I’m crying.”
That moment struck me.
So often, we treat tears like something to be ashamed of—as if crying means we’re not okay, or that everything has gone wrong.
But here’s the truth: crying is a human emotion. It’s our body’s way of releasing stress, grief, frustration, or even relief.
Crying doesn’t mean you’re failing. It doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’re human.
As a coach, I like to remind my clients that we don’t need to measure how well we’re doing by whether or not we cry.
In fact, tears can be a sign that something inside of us is moving, healing, or simply needing to be felt.
So the next time you find yourself in tears, don’t judge it. Just know that this is a normal human response.
